  Sam-i-am

If you don't know.... Sam-I-Am is the main character in a Dr. Seuss book, "Green Eggs and Ham." Just this weekend, that book made the news again as President Obama read it to a group of children at the White House Easter festivities. Now you all know I don't care that much for the President, but I have to admit, he scored points with me on that one. If he would just give up this stupid health care thing and for that matter most of his pet projects and stick to reading Dr. Seuss, I would probably vote for the man in the next election. lol

By-the-way.... you probably also don't know that I finally adopted a parakeet and his name is Sam-I-Am. He is mostly white with some blue here and there. Very beautiful. I've tried to teach him to talk, but so far.... nothing. He sings really pretty and is quite loving. Sam loves to sit on my shoulder and rock with me in the rocking chair. He cuddles up to my neck which I just love. And... I have learned not to look at him when he is that close as he did bite my lip. Ohhhhh.... that hurt. I can't believe how much a person can fall in love with a bird, but I have. You will probably hear more about Sam in the future, especially if he ever learns to do anything. Maybe I can teach him to read Dr. Seuss and he can run for president. ;o)

Did I read somewhere that they will or won't talk if there is another bird? When I was a kid I remember people had a little mirror in their parakeet's cage so he'd think it was another bird. A friend of mine had a parakeet and a cat named Frosty, and when Frosty wanted in or out, the parakeet would yell: Frosty! Frosty!

I've heard Cockatoos make especially good pets--very smart. Hopefully you can potty train Sam! Enjoy.

Jondude got me interested with his birds and then he sent me all his books on the subject. I really like Sam. He is good company. Of course, being here alone so much, anything is good company. lol

Thanks fredo. I really do enjoy my bird. I am amazed at what great company such a small creature can be.
