Out of Sight, Out of Mind

In summer we breakfast on the balcony on the shady side of the house, unable to believe we will ever want to sit in the sun for breakfast. But now it’s getting cooler and we find ourselves breakfasting on the eastern balcony, warming our backs in the sun.
“Out of sight, out of mind” seems a pretty accurate description of my brain. Every time we arrive home we’re surprised at how luxuriant and leafy our place is – especially after the town. How could we forget so quickly?
The only thing we don’t have is an unobstructed view of sunsets, because there’s a hill to the west. Instead, the solitary mountain to the east reflects the sunsets, turning from green to yellow to gold to red before disappearing in the dusk; a good reason to stop and sit on the balcony to watch.
Like several mountains in this area, it is a monolith, part of the rim of an ancient volcano. Vertical cliffs erupt from tree-covered slopes. There is only one path to the top along the base of a sheer wall of rock, then up a steep narrow path of loose stones to the upper slopes. But the view from the top is worth the climb.

Although I can see the sunset, I often prefer to look east and watch how it turns the rock cliff that looks down upon us aglow in gold. Where you live looks wonderful.

I'm jealous -- it must be so peaceful where you live.

My favorite time of day is Sunset--the sky always looks so magnificent with it's colors even in bad weather. Of course no mountains here in Florida but we do have the ocean and the gulf!!!

Lucky you! My view, while unobstructed, is of flat, brown in winter, green in summer, fields of farmland. I do enjoy my yard and garden, however.

Nice pic, sounds like a beautiful place. Always wanted to check out Australia some day. Heard lots of great things about it.

I am a big lover of nature, Kentucky is full of it, though not so much endangered or exotic animals or flora. That is part of why it sounds appealing to me.

It's like the curate's egg... good in parts. mostly it is flat and dry and dull, when it isn't overcrowded, polluted and noisy. Australia has the greatest number of endangered species of animals and birds in the world! Like the rest of the planet, it's pretty well stuffed. We were just lucky here and worked hard. everyone around us just deforests and mows grass.most people don't give a stuff for native animals and plants.

Our place is the exception... Everyone else hates nature it seems.
