  Dang It!

Two nights ago, I didn't watch the news, therefore didn't know about the risk of frost. Found five plants dead the next day - zucchini, spaghetti squash and pumpkin (a special kind I was excited to grow this year - the seeds are hulless so they are better for eating). At least since the tomatoes were still on the deck, they didn't freeze.

Ugh. I planted seeds in the garden to replace the ones that froze, but now they will be 6 weeks behind and I'll be trying to protect them from frost in the fall.

Gardening can be aggravating. I'm fighting rabbits. They've chewed off my corn tops. I have to cover my 29 sweet potato plants with cans every night.
It's the price one pays.

We are having a late summer, too. It's not getting warm enough at night for the tomatoes to really do their thing. Next year I will look for cool weather tomatoes. Initially I bought a hybrid called Firecracker that was supposed to be more heat tolerant but realized at high altitude heat wasn't the problem as much as short growing season, so I traded it for an Early Girl.

Sorry to hear you lost those plants! Hopefully the next batch will do well and not be affected by any frost!

It's been a rough spring for most of us. We lost a couple of pepper plants.... no biggie, but annoying.
