  Peaceful Coexistence

Everyone who has pets knows full well that beds aren't just for humans. Especially if there is a nice heat source nearby, which there is in this case.
Huxley the piebald dachshund shares the bed with his most recently arrived house companion, yet another cat, Fancy Pants. She just hops up and makes herself at home; he uses his ramp (out of photo on side of bed) to come and go. Fancy has become our replacement cat for Muchka who, after 18 years with us, passed recently.
Fancy was an abandoned cat who was coming to our feeding station halfway down the driveway. How anyone could abandon such a beautiful and sweet cat, I have no earthly idea. We took her in and she now has a home for the winter, and beyond. I love picking her up and snuggling with her; she purrs and readily returns the feeling. It didn't take her long to learn to use the two cat doors, so she comes and goes now at will with no problems.
You remember what Garrison Keillor said about cats? "Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function."

It looks like Fancy is saying 'come scratch the top of my head and maybe under my chin' and Huxley is listening for food to drop in the kitchen.

Snoring Pets? Actually, Fritzy, the eighty-five lb. male puppy, snores loud enough to suck the window curtains!

I love your pets' names!!!!
As for my bed...I shared it last night with my wife, two German Shepherds (one of which weighs 85 lbs.) and a cat.

I hope your shepherds don't snore as loudly as our dachshund...

Fancy Pants is one beautiful cat. Huxley seems to be ok with her.

Huxley generally realized that screwing with the cats is not a good idea...

I get a little concerned with cats going out but, obviously, that's just me.

It depends on where you live to a great extent... we're not close to the highway, have an inner security fence, and are basically hidden in a pinyon-juniper grove. I'd never let them out if we lived in an apt or condo complex.

Yes, I have put their paws on the panel to show them how easily it moves. I hold it half-way and they go through with the feel of it on their backs. I haven't tried the food thing but the problem is I got the pet door because of Max, the manx. He is the one who is in and out 14 times an hour. And he is not interested in food. In the morning, Brunswick and Chewy are in the kitchen eager for wet food. Max just wants to go out. You put a dish of wet food in front of him and he ignores it and runs to the door. I'd have to starve him.

Ah, but aren't those little independent personalities why you love them so...

Love your animals. I am envious Fancy was such a quick learner. My three cats are still not using the pet door.

Have you worked with your cats to show them how it operates? They say having some food on one side sometimes impels them to come thru it... With the one of ours who was the slowest to figure it out, we simply started pushing her thru it head first; she got the idea then.
