Etsy Frustrations


I did very well with my sales over December but it meant I had to contend with an ignorant, computer illiterate and a neurotic. The first lady ordered one of my patterns. All of my patterns are PDF, automatic downloads. As soon as she paid for it the pattern was sent to her computer. She gets the pattern without my doing anything. So, a month after she purchased the pattern and without saying a word to me, she reports me to PayPal for non-receipt of goods. I immediately sent the woman another pattern but PayPal kept my money for weeks. I received no thank you or apology.

The neurotic thought she could have guaranteed, rush delivery of the slippers, she had already paid for, without paying any extra. When her slippers didn't arrive a week after she'd paid them she reported me to Etsy for non-receipt of goods, saying she wanted her money back. It was more than 2 weeks before Christmas and she's freaking out because the (Christmas gift) slippers haven't arrived. She sent me numerous e-mails about not receiving them yet and I kept trying to calm her fears, after all, parcel delivery is a little slower in December due to the Christmas season. Then, she informs Etsy and I that she got the slippers, in time, and that the mailman had delivered them to her neighbours house by mistake. Again, there has been no thank you or apology.

Fortunately, there are the people from the other end of the spectrum. Those ladies who send me photos of what they knit from my patterns, the 11% who give me a 5 star rating and excellent feedback and those who take the time to send me a personal e-mail about have much they love their purchase.

I could tell you some almost legendary stories about painting shipments I have made. I switched to UPS Ground and the problems have all but disappeared. But for foreign destinations I use the USPS. Cheaper and less hassle.

No offence, there are a bunch of thieves working at USPS. I have had so much merchandise go missing when I send it to the states. Has never happened when I send to other countries or within Canada.

People seem to be more rude online that they would be in person. I wonder if it's because of the false sense of insulation and distance.
Fortunately, many people still DO mind their manners.

There are always people who don't know how to purchase online and are vengeful about it. If you're able to post the photos from your buyers, I'd do it. Those are good to see.

They buy stuff I've already posted pictures of. I also appreciate my repeat customers.

I needed to complain to Etsy a few years ago and couldn't figure out how to do it. I did email the seller of the product and she didn't reply. I had ordered one of those bowls with a slit to hold yarn balls for Donna and I had an agreement with the seller that shed make one in the size and color we discussed in detail. Turns out she sent me the green one that was featured in her photo not blue as it was supposed to be and not as wide as it was supposed to be. I think Donna uses it occasionally, so I guess there's no real harm, but Donna did want blue from light to dark.

Sales are sometimes a nightmare. I only know what I like so I am no
good whatever at selling things.
