encourages her, but Precious must battle unimaginable barriers everywhere in her life. Lee Daniels

directs his drama that features appearances by Mariah Carey

& Lenny Kravitz.

Rated R 1 hour 49 minutes 2008

5 stars. Very heart-wrenching, moving, and powerful. Really drives home the point that the best things in life don't always come easy. Touches on racism, raped, incest, and abuse. Very hard to watch at times but very touching ride!

It's not an easy one to see but well worth it.

How can I put this discreetly--yes Gabby does a great job but I have known many girls (and boys) like her so hr story wasn't new to me a it may be too others so neither she nor the story were that much of a surprise but then again I never knew mother to think like Mo'nique so that hit me hard

I so agree with you about Mo`nique...very powerful & moving performance...but I am a sucker for the underdog. It's always angered me so much that the strong prey on the weak (rich on the poor; Majority on the minority, etc). So when they stop that cycle it really inspires me. I have really worked hard on changing my life around and I never had as many obstacles as she had so I admire her courage, strength, love of life, and williness to go on & not give up...no matter how bad it gets. If you give up that means the world won (or the bad guy or whomever the majority is) and I say "F*CK! THAT!!"

I found the whole movie to be very moving. It's true that the scene with Mo'nique just blew me away, and I don't blow away easily, but the rest of the movie had me thinking about all the strikes that are against young black people, and marveling at the spirit and desire of Precious to rise above. The look on her face in the very last scene was marvelous - you could see her triumph and determination, but it was sad because my gosh, she had come a long way for her, but that put her at the low end of the competition for jobs and the so-called American Dream. The fantasy scenes were especially poignant, such as the one where we find out she sees herself as a cute blonde white girl. Off the subject: Mariah Carey sure looks 'special' in that photo you found of her. Not to mention Lenny Kravitz. Couldn't you find anything better for a photo? You prob do that on purpose, huh?

I guess I should restate & say that I really did like Mo'nique's monologue (I was just disagreeing with Martin that it made the whole movie...I thought Gabby had several scenes that really gave a punch and made the movie for us. Totally agree with you about many young black American's having strikes against them and I have seen the same thing among Native American's and even here with the Hawaiians. But I was so moved that she was able to overcome all of that and the abuse & torture. And the fact that even though those kids are her father's...she still loved them & wanted them with her...oh god I cried so hard at the end when she walks out with her babies...WOW!! The fantasy scenes were amazing...I loved how sexy, funky & amazing Gabby looked in all those scenes...so different from Precious. But i guess that is the point of fantasies. Something captivated me about that picture of Mariah Carey...I really don't like her attitude but have always been able to appreciate her beauty (just wish the inside matched the outside). Oh the Lenny picture...my god I was so tempted to put something even better but figured that one said enough..I was rolling my tongue back into my mouth LOL.

Rea my review--the first hour is boring and slow--the acting i fine but it is Mo'nique's monologue near the end that makes the whole movie--without that it would be nothing

Disagreeing here...Gabby did an amazing job as Precious and we found the imagery from the beginning to be captivating.
