  Trials and Tribulations

I'm not even sure what a "tribulation" is, but my sister is currently fighting the system in getting her Indiana driver's license since she's moved here (and living with me).
She's been to the BMV four times and still has no DL. What a nightmare for her.
Beginning Jan. 1, the laws changed here (and elsewhere) for proof of who you are. ( I told her to get her DL in Dec., but she's a procrastinator.) She's been married and divorced twice, changing her name each time. So her SS card doesn't match her current name. She has to submit proof she's one and the same person. That means marriage and divorce certificates, not to mention new address proof and IRS papers!
And if you've ever been to the BMV, you know what a hassle that all is.

********************************************************************

I made a sweet potato pie (with crust help from sis), to take to the annual Lions Club chili supper (to raise funds for a burn victim). I worked the pie table, pushing my pie, but nobody wanted to take a chance! I was able to bring 3 pieces back home with me. I haven't tried any yet. I ate pecan instead after my chili.

Then I hightailed it to pick up Barb to go to a classical guitar concert performed by a local 17 year old female phenom. She was marvelous--incredibly gifted (Chaconne Klaverenga, if you ever look her up). The audience was mostly elderly folks, but they were quite appreciative, giving her a standing ovation.
And, much to my surprise, they added a bonus of pie a la mode with coffee after the concert! Of course, I couldn't turn down a piece of apple pie. I jogged (finally!) yesterday 5 miles. I'm going to have to double that distance today to run off my indulgences. At least the temperatures have warmed up enough to get outdoors.

No, I don't have a recipe. Do you have a good one? I was just going to check Allrecipes.com.

All done in a Cuisinart. Sweet Potato Pie.
1 pre-baked 9-inch crust
3 med. potatoes, baked (microwaved) 'til soft, peel, mash with 1/4 C butter
1 cup sugar (I use half brown sugar)
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 t cinnamon, 1/2t ginger
2 T milk
2 T bourbon (opt)

Add all ingredients to potato/butter mix, and put in Cuisinart to blend.
Pour in pie shell and bake at 400* for 15', then 350* for 25-30'. Let cool/set.
Voila! Good luck.

I've never had sweet potatoe pie, but have always wanted to try it. Right now I have about three good sized sweet potatoes just waiting to be used. Is that enough? Maybe I'll give it a go this week.

If you like pumpkin, you'll like sweet potato pie, only better. I put a couple of TBS of bourbon in mine. Three potatoes should be more than enough (3 cups worth). Do you have a recipe?

There are plenty of older folks here and all over the country who came from other countries or were born on farms and don't have all the paperwork, or have lost what they had for whatever reason. And younger folks, too, for that matter. I think it's verging on fascism to enforce these rules, and maybe now that Dick Cheney isn't running the country they'll back off some. One can only hope.

I have a feeling the mandates will be rescinded. It's discriminatory for women, for one thing. And totally overboard!

Jog to work off your indulgences? Good grief! A stiff breeze would carry you away!

It's all relative i realize. But I can tell when excesses have entered my life: No anchor needed!

Not much sounds better than classical guitar.

Glad you concur. I listen to a Purdue station that plays 4 hours of classical baroque (called "Sunday Baroque", out of Connecticut) with occasional guitar songs. Wonderful show--and it's on today!

My friend Steve, in California and neurologically waning, was a fabulous classical and flamenco guitarist in NYC in the 50s and 60s when we knew each other well and hung out. Someone joked that at Steve's wedding, a bomb dropped on the house would eliminate all guitarists/banjoists, etc. in the city. And that would have included Theo Bikel and Ray Boguslaw, Theo's partner in folk.

Your Sis must have a giant headache.

She's been on the verge of tears, for sure. And while she brings a lot of her troubles on herself, this issue is not deserved.

Actually, it's pretty boring around here this time of year. But I don't mind.
