Choosing Family

So it's been a difficult year. Found out my favorite Uncle has a rare form of non-hodgkins lymphoma, called Mantle Cell Lymphoma. It's an agressive bitch, and he's been fighting it. We're still hoping that he pulls out from it. Understandably different people react to grief in a myriad of ways. One of these ways is to focus on something so small and insignificant and to beat your horse till its dead (expression).

So my cousin, who doesn't know this blog exists, or would even stumble upon anything I have ever written, we'll call him BJ. He is the son of this uncle, who is incredibly sick. Him and funghi are friendly and he played in the March Madness pool this year. He was lucky enough to win the pool. The last game was April 8, and he hadn't received his payment. During late April, he posts to funghi's wall and asks where is payment is. Funghi thinks this makes him look bad to his friends on Facebook, and writes him back via email. BJ writes back, just let me know when payment is going to be received.

So Funghi tells him he is going to put it in the mail, and honestly forgets to do so. A week goes by and this prompts BJ to write Funghi a three screen email about why he hasn't received his payment. He won $320, and doesn't say that money is tight for him, but proceeds to hammer, insult and alienate funghi. Funghi is either very sensitive or very laid back. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. However, the email is very offensive and he feels compelled to write him back. Funghi never tells BJ he's not going to pay him. BJ equates funghi with a bookie, which isn't true because they get a cut of the action and Funghi doesn't. Funghi writes him back and gets another three screen dissertation on why he should get his payment immediately, and threatens to go to the rest of my family telling them of Funghi's deliquency (less than a month). Funghi decides we're just going to drop off a check to his house, and writes him back for what he thinks is going to be the final email. No, BJ writes another more insulting email back. Doesn't ever confirm that he got the check for the $320 that he had a boner for.

Anyway, the point of this is, that I am choosing what family to spend my time with. BJ has "forgotten" to invite me to many family events at either his or his mom's house over the last few years. I hope he continues to do so, because I don't wish to spend any time, money or energy with him. I can't choose my family, but I can choose where and who I spend time with. His wife and himself are probably two of the most selfish human beings I have ever met. I hope that this blog is the last energy I put forth in being upset and angry with him.

Ack. It's terrible when family act out in such an embarrassing way. Why do people have to be so petty? Sorry that even happened. Stupid Boy, throw rocks at him!

I hope your uncle goes into remission and there is not a family funeral in the near future where you'll inevitably see that cousin. It's not a good idea to skip a funeral like that, though, just steer clear of that one guy and his wife.

Awe... Very annoying indeed... Maybe when fungi does these in the future he should add that payment will be received within 2 months of completion or something along those lines just so people don't expect payment the next day... I hope things settle down. you!

BJ is not invited into any more pools. Seriously fuming. Still.
