Some of This and Some of That

There is a place here in Las Vegas where you can operate heavy equipment. Just pay your $200 or so, undergo the training, and have at it on the empty lot. I would do it except I've got my own piece of semi-heavy equipment at home in Colorado. Operating heavy machinery is a lot of fun, if you ever get a chance.

Here I am at the controls of a track hoe getting ready to take the first swipe at a farm house we were tearing down:

Here's our Ford skidsteer. Most people call them Bobcats, but that's a brand name.

This was taken near our house in Las Vegas the other day:

This is the hallway of one of the hotel floors at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. It gave me the impression of a space ship.

Every pair of two rooms has its own little foyer off that main hall.

This lends a real air of class to the place because you never see the maid carts and abandoned room service trays lined up down the corridor. You also feel special not having your room open right onto the hall.

Here's an old trophy Mr. Troutbend got a few years ago. I'm posting as a tribute to the bowling gods. Maybe he'll bring home another one these days. Last week he had 10 strikes in a row, but needed 12 for a perfect game.

One time he bowled a 299, and the bowling alley gave him a bowling with a plaque that said "the one that got away."

I love all the time you get to spend in Vegas... and then in CO in the beauty of it all. Lovely!

Our Las Vegas life has changed since we saw you there - not so many comps. That's good in some ways because to earn those comps a lot of money was lost.

I am completely impressed. You now remind me of Sigourney Weaver operating the big cargo loader in the movie Aliens, which she later uses to battle the mother alien. If I were ever to stay in Vegas long enough, I'd want to take that training.

(I actually did find a few wooden spools at home, but it's so sweet of you to think of sending me some!)

Well, you let me know if you want some more. I'll post a picture one of these days and you can see if there are any you'd like to have. I have some silk threads on small spools that look cute in a sewing basket.

We used to see tractors on the roads around here. Now almost all the farms are gone. Only one left. No need to move the equipment from place to place. I miss the farms, except when they were spreading manure.

It's sad to see the farms squeezed out by development. Once the houses start coming in, the inhabitants complain about the farming - noise, smell, whatever, and many of them moved there because they wanted to live in the country.

Vroom! Vroom!

Moving heavy equipment has not been something I lie at home dreaming about. However, I admire your ability to do it all! I looked at the spare bedroom today and made some measurements in an effort see if I could rearrange the furniture to make it more convenient. At the end of that process, I gave it up. The very thought was exhausting.

Mr. YouKnow used graph paper to make to scale furniture outlines and to scale rooms so we could see how the furniture would fit, but it doesn't account for the volume of it. I've got it here now, and am going to see about rearranging some of my rooms this summer.

Laura, you are a domestic Goddess and now we see that you are a master of
heavy equipment too. To those of you who don't know Laura, she is the
best cook and pie maker that I know and sews and knits as well. I admire
her ability to figure out problems and her fine motor skills.

I am hoping for a giant snow storm in Colorado this spring so I can get out with the bucket and move it around.

just about driven all heavy equipment back before when you needed a license, now i;m not allowed on a forklift without one. Not that i want too.
LOVE THE PONY CART reminds me of our billy cart when i was a kid.

One time I drove a farm tractor along the highway for 10 miles instead of trailering it. They don't go very fast - it was a long ride - probably could have left it running, jumped off to smell the roses, and caught up with it again.

'I've got my own piece of semi-heavy equipment at home'--is that a way to talk about Mr. T?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
