  That Poor House

The demolition of the house on our farm is progressing at the pace of a snail, but there is progress. They were going to start 'for sure' Thursday or Friday, but I went over there Friday afternoon and the only progress was the delivery of a trackhoe similar to the one in the photo. It has tracks like a tank and a bucket like a backhoe, but it is larger than a backhoe. I can drive my truck under the arm when it is at rest.

All the asbestos siding is gone, as well as the windows, woodwork, flooring, and built-in cabinets. I'm glad so much was taken because it reduces the amount going to the landfill.

I know you are wondering if we could have let the fire department burn the house down as a training exercise. No and do: prohibited by county, state, and no doubt federal law. Believe me, everyone in the area is aware of that house and if the fire department wanted it, they'd have let me know.

Here is the view from that house taken the day before the big snow.

I am glad that this is one worry off your shoulders.

I always hate to see old farm houses torn down. I know it's for the best.

I know, it's too bad. I have to keep reminding myself why this was a good idea.

That is from this distance surely a tiny house. So much has been said about it, I can't remember why it needs to be torn down.

It's not small, it's 2000 square feet - costs a fortune to insure - and it's not in that photo because this is the view from the house. It had to be torn down because it was in too bad condition to make over for rental, and my cousins/partners thought it was keeping the farm from selling.
