Life & Events > Springish

We are heading into spring and there are miniature daffodils in bloom here at the offices where our watershed coalition is housed. They will probably get snowed on, but it's nice to see some color. I've always liked seeing the forsythia bushes in bloom, but have never had one of my own. I don't know if they grow at 7000 feet above sea level, but I've never seen any in my area.

I came across a Facebook post about these lamb cakes for Easter, and found several recipes for the cake. I thought I had one of those cake molds, but turns out it is a rabbit. Same concept, really. I am thinking of trying to make a cake of my own just to see how easy or hard it is to come up with something attractive and delicious.

From the Internet:

This is the kind of things our watershed coalition is involved with. I maintain the website so post these weekly updates. This particular stream is/was very small until the floods reamed out a huge area, threatening all the cabins and homes perched along its banks. Federal funds are paying for this work. Our main job was to obtain landowner permissions to do the work. You'd think people would jump at the chance to have more than a million dollars in free money applied to making their homes and property safer, but there are always some who want more than is possible.

Yup, that's how it works here. But this year the warm spells haven't lasted long enough to cause problems. We'll be down around 0 this weekend (again).

And then winter comes back in a big storm and subsequent cold snap so all the fruit blossoms freeze, and no peaches that year.

Do you hire contractors to do the river work? ... I've never seen chihuahua cake before.

Yes, we hire contractors to design and build the river work, costs quite a bit of money, and the coalition's staff manages the grants by doing all the paperwork and trying to keep the landowners happy. Even for that little stream in the photos above, the design was a big production.

That cake picture tickled my funny bone. There is another photo that was posted on Facebook where the home-made one had the silliest look on its face. And it does look more like a dog than a lamb.
